Grand Junction, Colorado, United States

Description: Since opening its doors in May 1988, Triple Play Records has been a beloved part of downtown Grand Junction and a longtime destination for music lovers across Western Colorado. Owner Rock Cesario started the shop after working at Smokestack Records and Budget Tapes and Records. With a lifelong passion for physical music, Rock combined records with baseball cards, posters, incense, and other collectibles to create the store that would become Triple Play Records. Rock built the business alongside his wife, and the store remains family owned and operated today. Their son, Matthew Cesario, serves as general manager and helps oversee daily operations, special events, and the continued growth of the store. Triple Play has seen nearly four decades of change in the music industry. The store survived the difficult years of the late 1990s and the rise of digital downloads, continuing to serve customers through more than two decades of challenging conditions. As vinyl and physical media experienced a major resurgence in the early 2000s, Triple Play was there to welcome a new generation of collectors while continuing to serve longtime customers. Walking into Triple Play Records is an experience for anyone who loves music. The store carries more than 100,000 new and used records, with an extensive selection organized by genre. Shoppers can dig through rock, jazz, blues, country, hip hop, metal, world music, and many other categories in search of everything from well known classics to rare and unexpected finds. The store also has a special commitment to Colorado music. Triple Play maintains a dedicated section featuring artists from Mesa County and throughout Colorado. Local musicians can bring in self released albums, EPs, demos, and independent label releases, giving regional artists a place to connect with listeners and get their music into the hands of the community. Triple Play is also more than a place to buy records. The store carries turntables, stereo receivers, speakers, replacement needles, cartridges, and vinyl cleaning and care products, making it a resource for both longtime audiophiles and people just beginning their vinyl journey. One of the biggest days of the year at Triple Play is Record Store Day. As a registered independent Record Store Day location, the shop is a major destination for collectors on the Western Slope. Each spring, Triple Play brings in hundreds of exclusive and limited edition releases, creating an exciting day filled with music, crowds, local food, and live DJ sets. Every May, Triple Play celebrates its anniversary with a huge customer appreciation sale. The annual event brings music fans downtown for deep discounts, pre owned records and gear, bargain bins, and special deals throughout the store. It is a tradition that reflects the relationship Triple Play has built with its customers over nearly four decades. The store has also made community involvement a major part of its identity. Triple Play has participated in food drives, charity events, local promotions, and efforts supporting other independent businesses in downtown Grand Junction. Its role in the community extends well beyond selling music. For nearly 40 years, Triple Play Records has continued to prove that record stores are about more than buying and selling albums. They are places where people discover new artists, share memories, meet fellow collectors, support local musicians, and keep the experience of physical music alive. From its beginnings in 1988 to its place today as one of Western Colorado’s longtime independent music institutions, Triple Play Records continues to bring people together one record at a time.
